Terms of use
The terms that apply here.
Plain language where possible, since a terms page nobody can actually understand doesn't protect anyone. By using Sober Woke, you're agreeing to the following.
Last updated: 29 August 2026.
1. Who this is for
Sober Woke is intended for people aged 18 and older. By using the site, you're confirming you meet that age requirement.
2. Not medical advice
Everything on Sober Woke, articles, the drinking check-in, community conversation, is educational information and personal experience, not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It doesn't replace a doctor, therapist, or addiction specialist. If you're a heavy or long-term drinker, talk to a doctor before stopping suddenly, alcohol withdrawal can be medically dangerous.
3. Your account
Creating an account means giving an accurate email address and keeping your password secure. You're responsible for anything that happens under your account, so don't share your login with anyone else.
4. Membership and payments
Paid membership is billed according to the plan you choose (monthly, six-month, or annual) through our payment processor, Paystack. You can cancel monthly membership at any time; cancelling stops future billing but doesn't refund the current paid period. See the Refund Policy for full details.
5. Content you submit
If you submit feedback or share your story through the site, it stays private, seen only by the team, unless you actively tick the consent box agreeing to let it be published. If you do consent, you're confirming the story or feedback is genuinely yours to share, and you're giving Sober Woke permission to publish it (lightly edited for grammar or length only, never for meaning) using the credit preference you chose.
Don't submit anything that isn't true, that violates someone else's rights, or that's abusive, hateful, or harassing. See the Community Guidelines for the full standard.
6. What belongs to Sober Woke
The site's design, original writing, and illustrations belong to Sober Woke. You're welcome to share links to the site, but not to copy substantial content elsewhere without asking first.
7. No guarantees
Sober Woke is provided as-is. We work hard to keep information accurate and helplines current, but we can't guarantee the site will always be error-free, uninterrupted, or perfectly up to date. To the extent the law allows, Sober Woke isn't liable for decisions made based on information found here, this is exactly why it's not a substitute for professional advice.
8. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the site grows, particularly as Community and other features move from "coming soon" to real. The date at the top of this page always reflects the latest version.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa.
